Wentworth Golf Club head into the final round with a one shot lead over Deniliquin Golf Club, at the 25th Holden Scramble Championship Final at Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast.

Going into the second round, both teams were tied after opening with scores of 51, and the strong form continued for both teams, backing up with scores of 50 and 51 respectively.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start, and then it all clicked. Starting on the back nine we made a nasty bogey on 17 but was then fortunate enough to eagle 18 and 1 which was a nice bounce back” said Todd Brakenridge, Head Professional at Wentworth Golf Club

“We feel like we didn’t play as good as we did yesterday, however made some really good putts so have got ourselves into a good position.”

Ahead of the infamous ‘What Happens in Vegas’ theme party, Brakenridge said his team were going to enjoy the night and experience all that the Championship Final has to offer.

“I’ve told the team to go out and have fun tonight. You don’t make too many Championship Finals so you may as well go out and enjoy it while you are here.”

“We have a Touring Professional tomorrow, so we are all pretty excited about that. It’s going to be a great night, followed by a great final round tomorrow.”

Balaklava Golf Club recorded a second consecutive round of 54.8. The teams round included a two shot penalty on the par 4, 8th hole. The team rallied to record birdies on 12 and 14, then closed out their round with two further birdies on the challenging par 3, 17th hole and par 5, 18th to hold a 1.6 shot lead over Queanbeyan Golf Club.

“We had a late blemish towards the end of the first nine, where we dropped a couple of shots, but had a couple of nice putts towards the end of the round for birdie which certainly helped things” said Chris Duke, Balaklava representative PGA Professional.

The leading 12 mixed and three women’s teams will play their final round with a PGA Touring Professional in addition to being joined on the 17th hole by three time European Tour Winner and Australian Olympian Marcus Fraser and Duke cannot wait for the opportunity.

“As soon as the ladies found out that he was going to be part of the event they were over the moon. He is a great representative for Australian golf and it is going to be fantastic to meet him”.
