062 (800x600)Katanning in WA have been running Holden Scramble events since 1994, but 2014 saw their first ever Women’s Holden Scramble. Amazingly players came from 11 different golf clubs in the area to make up the field of 44 starters. A great day was had by all. Players from came from Katanning , Woodanilling, Harvey, Bunbury, Dumbleyung, Kojonup, Muntadgin, Wagin, Hopetoun, Gnowangerup and Donnybrook. All ladies can’t wait for the next one and are spreading the Holden Scramble word. Local Holden Dealer, Graham Broad, ran the event and said “the enthusiasm in the club afterwards was as exciting as ever, with players loving the concept and the comradeship”. Graham has committed to players that he is happy to run the event again next year.

Meanwhile, 4,000 kms away, Wynnum Golf Club in Queensland were holding their Open Holden Scramble event. On their teams’ last hole of the day, Anaru Ferris stepped up to the 157 metre par three and coolly knocked the ball into the hole for an ace which was recorded on the team’s card. This was a special event for Anaru who later was presented with a prize from Wynnum Head Professional Matthew King. The event was again sponsored by Bartons Holden. Two Mixed teams and one Women’s team will progress from Wynnum to the Queensland Regional Finals.

In the nation’s capital, Gungahlin Lakes held their inaugural Women’s Holden Scramble with competitors braving the freezing conditions, literally freezing with the temperature dropping to -6 overnight. Teams conversed from all around the Canberra Region with 68 players on the day. The winning team from Queanbeyan narrowly missed out on progressing through to the State Final at their event, but made up for missed chances by emerging victorious by 0.25 of a shot.

Busselton in WA will send two teams through to the Regional Finals with their field again being strongly and supported by Fennessy’s Holden. Meanwhile in Victoria, Eastern Sward Golf Club hosted their inaugural Holden Scramble with a full field of 68 for the 9 hole course shotgun start. The club’s Captain, David McCrae said “It was a freezing start to the day but it couldn’t have been better. We had a bumper field and Bay City Holden were very supportive and are keen to continue with the club”. Fleet Manager, Rob Kestles, provided two HSV jackets as prizes and commented “What a fantastically unique club. Volunteers helped with getting the course set up and we had a great day”.
